Carhartt uses several fit names to describe the amount of room through the seat and thigh and the shape of the leg.
| Fit | Seat & Thigh | Waist / Rise | Leg | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slim Tapered | Closer fit through the thigh | Sits just above the waist | Tapered from mid-thigh to hem | A cleaner profile and work where snag reduction matters |
| Relaxed Straight | Roomier through seat and thigh | Sits just below the waist | Straight from mid-thigh to hem | Everyday mobility without excessive extra fabric |
| Relaxed Tapered | Roomy through seat and thigh | Sits just below the waist | Narrows beginning around mid-thigh | Room to move with a more tapered lower leg |
| Loose Straight | Generous through hip, seat, and thigh | Sits slightly above the waist | Straight, wider leg | Maximum mobility, layering, and heavy-duty work |

Natural Waist: Bend side to side and find the natural bend in your body. This may not be the smallest point.
Hip/Seat: Measure around the fullest point between the natural waist and crotch.
Inseam: Measure from the crotch down to the desired length, or measure the inseam of a well-fitting pair of pants laid flat.
